Israel turns 60

   Posted by: sujojohn   in Uncategorized

On May 8,2008, Israel celebrated its 60th anniversary. Israel provokes strong feelings for many. It either brings out the best in people or exposes their prejudices. Israel is a unique nation.  Its history is fascinating because it is the history of the Bible.

Many try to understand Israel by ignoring its biblical history. Such an understanding will be biased and ignorant. Many nations around Israel seek its destruction and elimination.  Many who hate Israel ask why a Jewish nation was birthed in the middle-east 60 years ago.  The answer is –Israel exists because they have been there before, look at history. Since the destruction of the temple in 70 AD the Jewish people have longed to return to their homeland and 60 years ago this amazing dream started to be realized.  The prophesy in the Bible that Jews will return to the ancient homeland began to be fulfilled.

But we now stand at another period of history 60 years following the birth of this nation there continues to be bloodshed in the Middle-East. Anti-Semitism is on the rise around the world.  Iran  and Syria threaten to eliminate and destroy Israel and Iran’s rush for nuclear weaponry is alarming.

How can we pray for Israel?

  • Pray that there will not be anymore blood shed or violence in Israel.
  • Pray that no Israeli or Palestinian life would be lost.
  • Pray that America and Europe would continue to suport Israel and  for favor among the nations of the world.
  • Pray that Iran will not be a nuclear country.
  • Pray for the suffering Palestinians.
  • Pray that Jersusalem, the city of Biblical History and the Future will not be divided.
  • Pray for the many Jews from around the world seeking Aliya (Immigration to Israel).

I close with this prayer.

Oseh Shalom
Words: Kaddish prayer

He who makes peace in His high places,
May He bring peace upon us
And upon all Israel,
And say ye Amen.
May He bring peace, may He bring peace,
Peace upon us and on all of Israel.

Shalom,

Sujo John

Friends it is very likely that you have not read or seen this story on the liberal news channels, print and networks.

This is one that makes me really proud and want to celebrate.  Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and her husband Todd recently introduced their newborn son Trig to the media. Their son born earlier this month has Down Syndrome.

Some of her quotes:

“When we first heard, it was kind of confusing,” Palin, 44, said of the testing early in her pregnancy that showed her baby had Down syndrome. The news was “very, very challenging,” she said, according to the Anchorage (Alaska) Daily News.

However, the governor said, she and her husband came to believe that God has blessed them. Palen said her son, Trig Paxson Van Palin, is “absolutely perfect.”It just feels like he fits perfectly,” she said. “He is supposed to be here with us.”

This is a neat story. She  demonstrated she is pro-life in practice. I remember meeting her a few years ago at a church in Anchorage, Alaska where I was speaking . She was in a campaign cycle but her strong convictions and faith really impressed me. I walked away from that meeting with her saying to myself God’s hand is on that woman.

This is a issue close to my heart. They say 90% of unborn babies detected with Down Syndrome are aborted in our country.  What a tragedy. I remember  on one of our visits to my wife’s obstetrician ( when we were expecting Sophie, our youngest). She recommended my wife take some tests. When I probed her  as to what those tests were for, her answer was to find if the baby had Down Syndrome. To that I asked if there was any way they could treat that in the womb and her answer was no. So what was the option - Abort! . I shuddered to hear that.  I explained to her how every life is precious and our stand on this issue and we do not want any tests like that. Thousands of young families in America are given this option.

It’s time we stand up for the unborn. Governor Palin and Todd you are our heroes. God bless you and your family. May your story inspire thousands.

Hello from Grand Rapids, MI

   Posted by: sujojohn   in Uncategorized

I just got done speaking here at Heritage Baptist Church, Kentwood, MI. It was  a great day and what an awesome team here leading the ministry. What was most moving  today was  it was First Responders Sunday and there were many firemen, policeman and Emt crew. I couldn’t help but think of the brave men who laid down their lives on 9.11.

Just got done with the evening service and thought I should just add some of my talking points from tonight.

Why is America becoming more and more post- christian?

 - The early church grew from 25,000 people in AD 100 to AD 20 million by AD 300. They had no church buildings, no sound equipment. intelligent lights, no bibles. Church was illegal. No seminaries, no youth groups, no seeker sensitive churches. But they exploded. What caused them to grow?

- The Chinese church has grown to a strong 85 million. Like the early church they had no  institutionalized framework, no fancy stuff. How come they have taken the gospel so seriously that they are now sending 100,000 Chinese missionares(Back to Jerusalem movement). The same can be said of churches in India, Africa and Latin America.

Is it possible that they have grown so fast and so rapidly because they kept the message of Jesus simple. They have no time and capacity for the stuff we deal with. Is it because they understand clearly that the gospel needs to be contextualized and adapted. Is it because they are just plain passionate people. It is because they take discipleship seriously and realize that we all called to be fruitful and multilipy. A true Christ follower is always reproducing his own kind.

What if we in America engage with this generation and reach out to them where they were. God sent His son to earth and the Word became flesh and dwelled among men. Can the church dwell with the lost and through our lives point them to the Cross? What if we bring the simplicity of the gospel back into our pulpits. What if we spend more time communicating what we are for instead of what we are against?

Lets think!
