The first conversion experience in Jesus’ earthly ministry is very interesting.
When he called out the first Christians; two smelly fishermen his words were
“Follow Me, and I will make, and I will make you fishers of men (Mathew 4:19). Two words “Follow Me” changed the lives of the first followers of Jesus forever. But with those words came a new mandate for their lives. What he was saying to them now guys from catching fish you going to be catching men. Now that you are rescued you are in the rescue business. In other words he was defining for us who a true disciple is. A true disciple is a fisher of men.
A radical follower of Jesus Christ will have the same heartbeat of the Father. He will be consumed with the same zeal for lost souls. His mission is the Father’s mission; that none should perish but have eternal life.
So all the followers of Jesus Christ are called to share our faith. This is the primary job of every Christian. But one of the greatest problems in the body of Christ is that only a fraction of Christians share our faith. We make excuses for not sharing our faith or we become too absorbed in our own world and leave the responsibility of sharing our faith with a few. Many focus on the Sunday morning worship experience as the highlight of their week when the true work of a follower of Christ is outside the church doors.
Dear friend,
God has strategically placed you for time such as this to bring in the end time harvest. The 100 million unchurched people in America need you. There are billions around the world waiting to hear the words of life that set you free. What will be your response? Heaven is counting on you.
- It starts with a passion. Ask heaven for a passion for the lost. When you will be consumed with the realization that without Jesus the souls of men are headed to a Christ less eternity; you will begin to share your faith.
- Be bold. Romans 1:16 “ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
- Pray everyday for divine opportunities with the people in your sphere of influence and people that come your way.
- Start sharing your story. Be ready to tell others what God has done for you. How he has turned your life around and the hope that you have in Him.
- Remember you are just called to be a witness. You are not called to explain everything in the Bible or defend everything in the Bible. If you get stuck with a question while sharing you faith admit that you do not know the answer but get back to them with an answer after you have done your study.
- Memorize scripture. Some of the scriptures that will help you are
Romans 3: 23 “For all have sinned and have come short of the glory of God.”
John 3: 16 “ For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life”
John 5: 24 “ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
Romans 10:9 “ That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Romans 10: 13 “ For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
1 John 1:9 “ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
2 Corinthians 2: 17 – “ Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new” -KJV
- Look for Creative ideas to share your faith.
- When trying to share faith with a Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist or foreigner invite them to a Thanksgiving dinner at your home or an Easter event or a Christmas pageant at church.
- Try to engage in God conversations. Do not force it on people. Be led by the Spirit. You might have 10-15 mins at a baggage claim area with a stranger. 2 hours with someone on a plane. 20 seconds with someone on an elevator. Impact them for eternity.
- Take an unsaved friend to a movie with a Christian theme or a Christian concert.
- When giving gifts to unsaved friends, coworkers give them something with a gospel message.
- When at a restaurant before you eat ask your server if there are something in their life you can pray for while you pray for your meal. Leave them a good tip and a tract when you pay the check.
- Leave a tract for the man at the tollbooth, the young girl at the drive through window when you pick up meal at your local McDonalds.
- When you meet a foreign student volunteer to teach them English and look for opportunities to share Jesus.
- Visit a neighbor, coworker or friend if they are in the hospital. Be ready to pray for them. Take a good Christian book.
- Young people invite your MySpace and Facebook buddies to a Christian group.
- You can lead someone to the Lord by encouraging them to pray something like this.
“ Dear Jesus, I confess you as my Savior and Lord. I am truly sorry for all my sins. Please forgive me of all my sins. I believe you died on the cross for my sins and the third day you rose again to give me eternal life. Please change my life and make me a new creation. I will serve you with all my heart, mind and soul. I am yours and you are mine. In Jesus name. Amen!”
Remember that for a sinner mere saying a prayer will not save him or her. It is faith in Jesus Christ that saves. So please do not be in a rush to make them say a prayer. Make sure they understand what they are doing.
Let share Jesus and change our world!
"Let your light so shine before others, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16.
